My wife and I noticed that most stock and aftermarket DVD players only last a few years. Of the 4 in vehicles owned by our friends, only one works. Because of this, we had avoided an installed unit and used portable headrest players in the past so that when they broke, they could be easily replaced.

This unit was a great alternative to more expensive installed DVD players. Our theory is that if the iPad ever breaks, we can simply replace it rather than the entire unit.

I installed this unit myself in my 2008 Sequoia with a sunroof. I ran 2 wires down the pillar behind the drivers seat and tapped the AUX power from the 12V connector in the center console and the BATT power from the trailer break harness near the fuse box under the steering wheel. I tapped the DOOR wire from the existing wiring going to the old dome light (which was replaced by the screen) and grounded it using a screw into the frame in the roof. The unit comes with a switch for positive and negative light controls, which is nice for toyotas that are wired to have the door lights come on when the current is disconnected. Everything works fine. I bought a Belkin and IGo bluetooth adapter to use my AUX in on the radio rather than the FM transmitter, which was very disappointing (but typical for any FM transmitter I have used). The IGo comes with a usb power connection, which is easily connected to the USB cigarette lighter adapter rather than using the AC/DC adapter for the Belkin.

I think it would be difficult to find another solution that matches the quality, cost and long-term flexibility of this product.
