Thule 9010 Archway Rear Mounted 3 Bike Rack Review

This is the Rolls Royce of trunk bike racks. I recommended it until it broke after one year.

Pros:
- Versatile. Fits just about any vehicle.
- Locks bikes to the rack.
- Locks rack to the car.
- Sway clips are a nice touch.
- Does not damage my car and arms fold up when not holding bikes.
- With one exception, does everything it claims to do.

Cons:
- Does NOT hold three full size bikes. Barely holds two.
- Did not have easy-setup help for my car, had to wing it.
- Arms aren't particularly easy to move once unlocked, but the manual provides decent advice for this.
- Might be able to find something comparable made in the USA.
- Does not include wheel stops. (I used bungee cords.)
- The nubs on the "Stay Put Cradles" broke after less than one year of light use. "Anti sway straps" now can't attach well = bikes fall off.

This rack spends six months a year in storage, so only sees the sun 6 months a year. I had bikes on this thing maybe twelve times and now it's unusable without serious improvisational rigging. Thule support isn't open on Mondays, so I have to wait 'til tomorrow to call them. If they make right, I'll add another star back, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to add more than that. If I pay $200 for a bike rack I don't expect to replace several parts annually if I've only used it a handful of times.
