Hellwig 1520 LP-15 Helper Spring Kit Review

Before I put on the LP-15 Hellwig helper springs my 06 Colorado handled and had the ride pretty much like a car. The ride was good but it was a little to soft with more roll in turns than you would expect from a truck. When loaded, not real heavy mind you, it would sag more than one would expect for a half ton truck. With the Lp-15 springs it still has a good ride but it not as soft and has less roll in the curves and turns. They realy transformed the handling more than I expected, without making it a real hard uncomfortable ride. I like the springs adjustment feature also. Want more firmness tightened down the shackle a little more. With added weight the truck will remain pretty level. When you are through hauling the extra weight release pressure on the shackle bolts. I tightened mine a little more than the instructions said to enlist the help of the springs when riding empty to help with the softness and roll. Perfect!
One note on installing the springs. It would have taken about 1 hour (BUT) the (unexpected) showed up. I didn't have to disconnect the brake cable which did help save time.I just bent the bracket just a shade to allow the front spring to slide under. Going good until I got to the aft spring. Could not install per the instructions due to the shock bolt hitting the shackle u-bolt. I tried turning the shock bolt around but the head was still to thick. Plus if it had worked I would have to remove the u-bolt when I replaced the shock. I loosened and moved the shock bolt back out of the way. Then I put the u-bolt in place with the bottom plate on it making sure the spring was touching the leaf spring so i could hold a nut up against the u bolt to mark it. I allowed another 1/4 in. to give room to install a 1/2 inch lock washer. I put two nuts on the u-bolt just past my mark and tighten them against each other to keep them from spinning. Then I used my 90 grinder with a cut off dics to cut the u-bolt. After the cut the nuts chased the threads when removed. Hack saw would work but the u-bolt is extremely hard. Before you start have a way to cut the u-bolt and two 1/2 in. lock washers. Note: Did not have to remove the tire. Jack up under the frame to just where the tire starts to leave the ground. Still used a jack stand for safety. Enjoy the New Ride and Control, I am. 5 Stars!
