Northern Industrial Tools Pickup Truck Crane - 1000-Lb. Capacity Review

This item arrived earlier than expected and I was surprised at the quality of the crane. I have a three-quarter ton pickup truck and this crane works well with the truck. The post and arm of the crane are constructed of heavy steel, solid welds, and a hard epoxy type paint finish. The hydraulic ram is well made and all the parts fit together perfectly. My only negative is with the cable on the winch, The cable is about 5/16 inch diameter and is a little too thick for the winch spindle. The first couple of turns of the winch bend the cable quite tight but then as the winch fills the cable works well. There is no cable guide to layer the cable on the winch as the winch fills; this causes the cable to bunch and the load to jerk as it is lifted. Although it would reduce the rating, i would suggest a smaller diameter cable or a larger spindle on the winch. In any case, the crane and winch are awesome and I highly recommend it to anyone that needs to swing heavy loads onto their truck
