I own a 1999 540i and I just finished installing the window regulator on the rear passenger door minutes ago... After 13 years, the original regulator failed.

I let the window auto close and auto open itself twice to make sure this item is working. Everything worked perfectly until the third time I put the window down automatically, it began to make loud grinding noises from where the cable spools near the motor. This is the same noise the original part made before the cable came loose from the pulley at the top. I put the window down and up two more times and the cable started to look loose. I slowly started to put the window up all the way so I can leave my door locked.

I am not bringing the window down until I find a better replacement for this.
