These enclosures are black powdercoated metal panels designed to fit on the Bestop Element Tube Doors. Maybe you'd use them on the trail to keep some of the dirt from entering the cab, or when the weather is iffy, you can pair them with the Bestop Soft Uppers to make a complete door that will keep the rain out.

I was really excited to have all of these possibilities! I bought the Bestop Element Tube Doors, this enclosure kit, and the Bestop Element Storage Bags. So in addition to the full steel stock doors and no doors, I also had the option of tube doors, tube doors with storage bags (facing in, or facing out), enclosed half doors, or enclosed half doors with storage bags facing in.

My head was swimming with all of the possibilities! How could I possibly decide, on a day-to-day basis, which configuration I was going to go with each morning before work?! But what a sweet decision to have to make!

Well, in reality it didn't work out that way. The enclosure kit is fine -- I'm glad I have it. But it's far less the install-on-a-whim component than I thought it would be. I installed the enclosures with the storage bags, and when I was finally done, I vowed that the doors would stay that way forever. Getting it all lined up was annoying, and you have to completely uninstall and remove the latch mechanism, and then reinstall it with the panel in place.

Then you have to install the weather stripping. The coil provided was about 18 inches short of what I needed to cover both doors. And then the passenger side door weather stripping started coming off for some reason (driver side is fine) so I had to remove it the rest of the way. I'll probably email Bestop about that, they have a good customer service reputation.

Once installed with the weather stripping, these feel like good, solid doors. While the tube doors alone had kind of an awkward "clank" noise when closed, these have a solid, dull "thunk" that makes it seem much more substantial. Weather stripping (on the side that still has it) does the job admirably, as I saw no evidence of leaks after taking a hose to it.

Once I get the weather stripping issue resolved, I'll be completely happy with these doors, except for the fact that I no longer have tube doors because there's no way I'm putting myself through that install process again. I guess I'll just have to get another set of tube doors one day!
